P S Narvekar got the idea of the play after visiting Sinhagad. It is based on the old novel

“Gad ala pan sinha gela” (We were victorious in conquering but hero has been killed)

by Hari Narayan Apte. The lady, who commits Sati (jumping into husband’s funeral pyre) in the original novel, and asks for permission from Shivaji Maharaj, is advised by him to spend the remaining life serving the poor.
