The book, written by Deshpande, has two sections on the subject. The first section deals with the entire analytical history of the development of poetry from an Indian perspective (from Bharatamuni 200 BC to Pandit Jagannath 1700 AD). The second section studies the comprehensive, rebuttal, discussion of the subject of poetics against the backdrop of the first five chapters of Mammat’s Kavyaprakash. It points to the history of how the term rhetoric had a limited meaning, and how it later became poetically aesthetically meaningful. One of the peculiarities of this work is that the plurality of meanings in Indian poetics does not rival the aesthetics that have emerged in the modern West, because Indian poetics presents ideas that bring it closer to pure literary bliss.
